Intern Diaries
3:00 PM
I
call it the pre-OJT before the legit OJT.
My
dad pulled some strings to get me a summer job in Girl Scouts of the
Philippines. I wasn’t technically a real OJT they called me a “volunteer”, I
didn’t know what the difference was between me and the other interns, maybe because I was special.
I
wanted a training ground like a test drive to internships before I experience
the big leagues next year. I learned A LOT of practical things like how to use
the time card and when to surrender them, how to use the laminating machine
(which fyi I probably broke trying to laminate a pressed flower) and how to
write the incoming logs.
There
are advantages and disadvantages with working in the same office as your
parent.
Advantages:
·
I almost know everyone from the office
·
I’m quite familiar with Girl Scouts since I
was it was a part of me waaaayy before I was born
·
I got a clearer view of my dad’s love life
c/o office gossip
Disadvantages:
·
Everyone knows me in the office =
expectations
·
My dad will know my every move
·
I get grilled with personal questions

Working
in the same division as my mom did really did help me understand and somewhat
connect to her in a way. The people I’ve worked with were utterly wonderful and
beautiful people, I’ve learned tons and I will keep it and apply it in the
future.
I
feel like I’m armed and ready for the real OJT next year. Got any internship
tips for me? help a brotha out.
