SOUNDS GOOD FEELS GOOD
3:04 AM
My first thoughts were “Wow this sounded so mature.” Not in the sense that it’s rated PG but in the sense that they’ve grown so much from the first album I mean dude it’s only been a year! I loved when they said they just don’t the album to be only about chicks, they have this platform to influence people and they’re using it to spread a great message. The album consists of songs about family, youth, finances and other messages you yourself can discover and relate to.
These artists with these kinds of messages are the ones you look out for; they’re the ones worth your time. It’s time we set aside the sappy love songs for a minute and listen to songs that sound good and feel good.
Money. I bet you that you put the volume at the loudest at the first few seconds. I bet you were like “WTF are they talking about?” then your eardrums got shaken at the first beat because that’s what happened to me (no shame). This song is one of my favorites, it had that energetic vibe I wanted plus I really love the chorus, “take my money, take my keys…”
She’s Kinda Hot. We all know this one. The title has nothing to do with the message of the song whatsoever. I got all hyped up when Luke said ‘bitching’ in the first line. It’s about mainly being a teenager and people just think that you’re incapable of doing things just because you’re young. I’ve heard that this was supposed to be a drummer song which means Ashton was supposed to be the only one who’s going to sing but for some reason they didn’t push through with it.
Hey Everybody. We all know this one too. If you’ve seen the music video the song pretty much means being broke and striving hard to be successful. If CEO Luke’s wink doesn’t inspire you to be successful I don’t know what will.
Permanent Vacation. This was the first ever song that was heard from the album because it was played in shows before the album announcement and good golly how the recorded studio version was so much better. At first when I heard the song that it was rhyming to much but now I appreciate it better although I still think that it has too many ‘-tion’ words. I love when Michael chants the “na na na na na na na”
Jet Black Heart. F A V O R I T E. I am inlove with this song like no other. I love the lyrics, I love the pauses of the instruments, everything. Recommendation: it’s better when it’s acoustic. I saw this one a video on youtube when they did it acoustically and there were goosebumps. I think it’s a Shazam! video(?) I feel like after Hey Everybody that this would be their next single; I just have a feeling, even though I don’t like it when my favorites become a single.
Catch Fire. First impression was the first beats of the song made me feel like dancing the Macarena. I love Luke’s voice in this song this is why it’s added to my favorites; the way he sings the chorus I love it. Favorite line: ‘I can’t change the world but maybe I’ll change your mind’
Safety Pin. When She’s Kinda Hot was being introduced there were teasers to the video and a broken heart with a safety pin image was shown several times, the fandom was like “THE NEXT SINGLE IS CALLED SAFETY PIN OMG!!!” which led me to thinking that it was called safety pin so when I heard SKH on the radio I was waiting for the lyrics “safety pin” which I didn’t find because the song was She’s Kinda Hot. This song was I guess an okay song. If I’m correct, I think Ashton was the one singing second verse and wow that was nice.
Waste The Night. ANOTHER FAVORITE RIGHT HERE. Love the lyrics even if it’s repetitive the arrangement made up for that. I love how the verses had like a faster flow than the chorus. Although there are some parts of the song were I think that they autotuned but its fine. You thought it was over, there’s a magical minute after the song which I just love.
Vapor. This is such a sweet song but sadly it’s the least of my favorites though I’m still giving it a chance to grow on me. Favorite line: “So don’t stop stop stop, we’ll take another shot shot shot because you know you got perfect taste I wanna feel you in my veins”
Castaway. This reminded me so much of ‘Lost Boy’ maybe because it had nearly the same idea. Favorite line: “Because you walked out and left me stranded nothing left but picture frames”
The Girl Who Cried Wolf. I really like this song. This is the most emotional song on the album; you could really feel it in Michael’s voice nearing the end. The song also has violins which makes it extra emotional. This is the perfect song when you are going through a breakdown; it’s a good release of energy. This is the song I am so excited to see live. I’m really excited for the Michael moment the way he would pour his heart out. I would be very disappointed if they don’t do this live.
Broken Home. This is a fan favourite; all through Tumblr a lot of people love this song maybe because it’s relatable to a lot of people. It’s a really sad song that hits you in a different way because it’s about family.
Fly Away. When I first heard it I wasn’t so psyched about it but now I’m really open to it. It would be a great road trip song.
Invisible. This is a really nice song when you really get into self-thought. Violins once again, it makes it so emotional. Do they have a violin group with them on tour? (lols)
Airplanes. The flute-like thing in the beginning was like woah. Although this wasn’t much of a striking song unlike the others I really like the arrangements.
San Francisco. I really like the vibe of this song. It’s light and acoustic. Michael’s voice melts my heart and you just feel the feels. Violins are once again present. I’m also excited for this live. There’s also another magical minute at the end.
Outer Space / Carry On. You are not mistaken its 2 songs in one track! I’ve heard so many albums in my life but this is the BEST final track in an album ever. It has this farewell vibe that concludes the album.
Outer Space – I love how it keeps changing speed, like its slow then there’s this quite fast part. The part when they sing “darkest night…” there’s a high pitch voice that I don’t know whose but it made me think that it was a girl’s voice.
Carry On – I love this. It felt like a graduation song for some reason. I also love the message of the song its short but sweet like it has this uplifting feeling. The last phrase of the album “it won’t be long you know it’s gonna get better.”
I am so proud of these guys. You know that they’re different with this album you feel like they’re different. They’re not afraid to be out there or to bend some rules. They want to be the band that they looked up to when they were young and I think that’s the best way to handle fame: is to become an inspiration.
